Kuala Selangor .. Where fresh seafood abounds. We traveled to Kuala Selangor to see if it is true. We heard that Kuala Selangor is the place to go for fresh seafood, so off we went..
![]() Fishing boat returning with their catch The Trip. When our neighbour told us that he will be going to Kuala selangor to buy seafood for the coming CNY, we decided to tag along. We knew that he like us loves to travel.and that he has "cousins" there, so there'll be a chance to experience some fisherman's life. The journey from Gombak to Kuala Selangor took us about an hour and half. We were expecting some traffic jam along Sungai Buloh area but was quite surprised to find the road to be smooth sailing although there was heavy traffic. Ah Leng our neighbour took us striaght to his relative's house in Kampung Pasir Radin, Tanjung Karang. It was a house by the Selangor river. The house standing on stilts by the river commands a beautiful view of the river. You can see the fishing boats returning from the sea with their catch. Sadly though we were told that the day of our visit coincides with the 15th day of the Chinese Lunar month, which is also full moon. It seems that usually during this period they will normally experience reduced catch. But the news didn't damper us as we trod off to the collection area where the fishermen unload their catch of the day. There was already a crowd there selecting choice picks even as the fishermen were unloading their catch. You can see some of the fishes and coral crabs still alive, trying to wriggle their way out of the containers. Guess thats what they mean by fresh! Buyers picking out their choice picks As we were choosing the fish and prawns, more fishing boats arrive with their catch of the day and sorting out their bounty in the boat before loading them into the jetty. There were several groups of people already waiting to buy even before the catch was weight. Most were buying to stock up for the Chinese New Year reunion dinner. After all purchases were made we left Tanjung Karang, heading back for Kuala Lumpur not before stopping by Kampung Pasir Permatang for a late lunch. The restaurant we went to was recommended by Ah Leng our neighbour. It was newly opened and the charges was reasonable we were told. We had tried before several other restaurants in the vicinity and it was not to our satisfaction so we agreed to try this new outlet. And of course the dishes ordered was seafood. We were quite satisfied with the serving size, taste and of course the price. among the dishes we ordered were deep fried soft shell crab, clay pot fish maw, stingray etc. all in all 6 different dishes for 6 adults and packed 3 dishes for another 3 adults at home. We were quite surprised when the bill came to RM 120.00. We had expected it to be more. Read about the dishes in our Gourmet section. We returned back to Kuala Lumpur but deciding to return again another day... How to get there? If you are coming from Klang, Head north from Kapar along the coastal road. There are road signs pointing you to Kuala Selangor. If you are coming from Kuala Lumpur use the Kesas and head for Sungai Buloh. From Sungai Buloh keep on the main road until you reach Kampung Asam Jawa. At Kampung Asam Jawa is a T junction , take the right turn. Kuala Selangor being a main town have ample roadsigns directing you to it. To get to Pasir Permatang Pasir Permatang is located not far from Kuala Selangor towm itself. Just after Kuala Selangor town, you will pass the bridge over the Selangor River. About 2Km from the bridge you will see Pasir Permatang on your right. It is actually a small town sitting on the banks of the Selangor River. If you have time on your hands and you are feeling more adventurous, try heading for Sekinchan. Half way to Sekinchan is Tanjung Karang where there are fishing villages and also seafood restaurants. At Sekinchan town, if you are coming from Kuala Selangor , take a left turn. Follow the road inside into another small cowboy town. Here you will also find several seafood restaurants that is not affected by the tourist market. But don't be mistaken cause they are quite busy and at weekends you might have to wait for your food. So happy eating and enjoy your food. After that its back to dieting. Any one can explain why you tend to put on weight more than what you eat? Gosh!
